They will also face bigger fines under the new law -- 1,000-20,000 baht per square metre of encroaching structures compared to 500-10,000 baht in the existing law. Encroachers could also face imprisonment or fines, or both. Newer structures must be in line with the new law, including waterside houses and restaurants, Mr Wiwat said.
